The terror of blind technological progress is relieved only by the revelation of the sublime within it. This search for the sublime within the machine is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and it is greatly advanced by this extraordinary work. Syn is a visionary glimpse of the future of entertainment, theatre and art.

So glad to have been able to see this show. Didn’t know what to expect and was completely surprised in a super good way. A complete new way to enjoy a performance, great lights, visuals and sound composition!

As the culmination of Rhizomatiks and ELEVENPLAY’s pursuit of new possibilities for technology and the human body, this incredible dance performance was the perfect choice to open Tokyo’s newest NODE.

There’s an indescribable sensation when cutting-edge technology like AI image generation and AR meld seamlessly with living, breathing dancers. First and foremost, I gained a newfound appreciation for what us humans are capable of. I was impressed by ELEVENPLAY’s ability to interweave physical expression and physical phenomenon with Rhizomatiks’ technological acumen into a captivating narrative. (My personal favorite was the rippling water scene!)

“Syn : Unfolded Horizon of Bodily Senses” by Rhizomatiks × ELEVENPLAY at TOKYO NODE has that unmistakable Rhizomatiks creative style—unconventional in many ways, just like we’ve come to expect. It’s a mind-bending fusion of art, dance, and tech, and the best part is, you’re not just a spectator—you’re part of the action from start to finish. Throughout the show, you’re not just watching; you’re living it. “Syn” flips the script on what an art experience can be. It’s all about feeling (audio+visual) and reshaping the way you experience the world. As for what’s next for their collaboration, who knows?

In isolation, the individual building blocks that make up Syn are all comfortably fine-tuned. Yet together, the sum of these parts adds up to an overwhelmingly profound viewing experience. On the one hand harkening back to Japanese stage traditions of yore, the composition also seems to herald the emergence of a future, comprehensive performance artform. I am greatly impressed by Rhizomatiks' continued commitment to pushing the limits of experimentation to ever further heights. I think Syn is a masterclass in what we should all aspire to as professionals.

Syn surpassed my expectations, unfolding with new surprises at every turn. It was an interdimensional spatial experience unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I felt transported to another world by this incredible symphony of sound, dance, theatrics, and visuals.

In this era of generative trends, Rhizomatiks has transcended the «generative» and set its sights on «genesis» with Syn, a groundbreaking piece that marks a new chapter for creation in the AI age. From this liminal moment on, all of humanity’s acts of «creation» and «production» shall rightly be discussed as coming either “before Syn” (B.S.) or “after Syn” (A.S.) We humans are an imperfect reflection of the image of god, and Syn offers a glimpse at the «inception» of our new, more perfect, post-human gods to come. This experience of the transcendence of interstellar intelligence and life is a truly visceral initiation into the singularity. Rhizomatiks and ELEVENPLAY have given birth to a work that speaks to the very heart of love in the 21st century—Syn is an immaculate «conception» indeed!

In this age when AI has blurred the boundary between reality and fiction, I urge everyone to come and experience this moving show. Standing in a space reminiscent of a 1960s sci-fi film cockpit, the realization gradually dawns that you are a part of the performance. Herein you’ll find an opportunity to reexamine our way of life in an era of constant surveillance and AI.

I had no idea what to expect when I stepped into Syn’s world. From the very first scene, I felt like I was part of the action. When I reemerged some time later, it was conversely sunny Tokyo that felt like another world.

“SYN is multi-sensorial immersion on a level I’ve never before experienced … the Rhizomatiks team have accomplished something quite unique and singular —- bringing together dance, automation, stereoscopic imagery, storytelling … the virtuosic techniques and genuine innovations in the show are not just for the sake of spectacle, but support an emotional and spiritual journey for the audience, who themselves become embedded in a multi-dimensional journey of awe … While the narrative is open for endless interpretation, our relationship with technology and synthetic realities was a guiding thread … and it seemed to me the audience itself became a part of some simulated ballet, an evolutionary movement dancing towards a transcendent singularity.”
